Feline Sneezing: Reasons Behind Your Kittens Sneezing
If your kitten just sneezes once or twice, there is nothing to worry about. If your kitten seems to be sneezing constantly, this could be cause to worry. There are several different reasons your kitten could be sneezing. Lets look at a few of them.
Were you aware that kittens can be allergic to things too? Your little bundle of fur can be allergic to many different things in your home, and one of the ways she reacts is by sneezing. Here are just a few things that your kitten may be allergic to dust, aerosols, cigarette smoke, pollen, dust in kitty litter, candle smoke, carpet cleaners, mold, dust and many other possible things. Just like a human being with allergies often sneezes, and has a runny nose as a reaction – so too can your kitten.
The cat flu. If your kitten has a Upper Respiratory Infection she will show signs of sickness around her mouth, nose and sinuses. URI are highly contagious, and are caused by bacteria viruses, and fungi. If your kitten has a particularly bad case you may also notice her to have a fever, coughing, watery eyes and a wet nose. A kitten with the flu needs plenty of rest and fluids.
A kitten could also be sneezing because a foreign object is stuck in its respiratory tract. If this is a case – you should be able to see if something there by using a flashlight. You can attempt to remove the object with tweezers, but it would be a good idea to take her to the vet.
Occasionally tooth decay can be the culprit behind a sneezing kitten. This doesn't happen too often with young kitten however. Signs are bad breath, puss in the mouth area and swollen gums. Teeth decay needs to be treated by your veterinarian, who will be able to advise you about the best course of action.
When your kitten has been affect by sneezing, she will need to be examined by a veterinarian. Your veterinarian will be able to advise you on what steps towards treatment need to be taken.
