Whether you are a gardener, a fish owner, or just a lover of fresh quality herbs and vegetables, aquaponic farming can provide you great benefits. Aquaponic farming is the process of growing fish and plants at the same time in a synergistic, eco-friendly way. Water from your fish tank is filtered into your plants, which benefit from the fertilization. Water from your plant bed is then moved back into the fish tank, so your fish always have clean water to swim in!

If you are thinking of starting an aquarium, understanding the nitrogen cycle is essential. Many people start an aquarium without knowing the facts. Before purchasing fish, the aquarium must be cycled. It could take anywhere from 24 hours to 4 weeks. Aquariums that have been in use for a while contain a type of bacteria which breaks down ammonia and turns it into nitrate, but since those bacteria are generated by fish already living in the aquarium, they are not present in a new aquarium. If there are no fish in the aquarium, there is no good bacteria.
